Discord with your partner can be extremely distressing. My hope is for each person to feel accepted, supported and heard. We will jointly identify the goals of couples counseling. Often times, these include your relationship goals. They can also include improving specific skills and ways of being with one another that might enhance the relationship. I have received training in the Gottman Method for Couples Counseling. Drs. John & Julie Gottman are renowned in the field of Couples Counseling.
Common areas of Couples Counseling:
- Managing Financial and Everyday Life Stress
- Intimacy and Sex
- Positive Communication and Affection
- Transition to Parenting
- Life Goals as a Couple
What to expect in Couples Counseling:
During our first meeting, we will discuss your history as a couple and what brings you to Couples Counseling. I will provide you each with written questionnaires to complete before your second appointment. These questionnaires provide a chance for you to reflect on your relationship and for me to get to know you better. In the second week, I will meet with each of you individually. In the third week, we will return to conjoint sessions, and we will have an opportunity to provide additional background information and collaboratively set goals for couples counseling.
It is very important that you feel supported and confident in your therapist. The first meeting can be an opportunity to determine whether it is a good fit. If you decide at the end of our meeting not to continue, you will not be charged for this first appointment. The initial assessment sessions cost $250. The typical 50-minute session costs $175. Couples therapy is typically not covered by insurance. Please call or email me to make a step towards getting the support that your relationship deserves!
